Susie Sanchez Photos: 2011 Raiders Cheerleader is a Grandmother
Susie Sanchez is a 2011 Oakland Raiders Cheerleader and a Grandmother. Here Are Some Susie Sanchez Photos
The Oakland Raiders have a rather unique cheerleader on their 2011 roster. New Oakland Raiderette Susie Sanchez is a grandmother: that's right, a grandmother. The 37-year-old Sanchez was one of more than 200 dancers to audition for the Raiderettes. Her spirited performance impressed team officials and she made the cut.
What was for sure was that it wasn't the only factor. Sanchez again impressed the judges with her dancing ability, skill and presence later that week - she had been dancing since she was 8, after all - and she can now safely say she is the oldest member of the Raiderettes as well.
"I just started crying," she said after she heard her number called - lucky No. 45. "It was like, 'wow.' I was overwhelmed with emotion ... just never give up.
The weird thing is that Susie Sanchez is not the first grandmother to be an Oakland Raiders cheerleader. Kathy Ferrin was named to the Raiderettes roster back in 2003-2004.
Despite her status at the NFL's GILF emeritus, Susie Sanchez is not the most high-profile Raiders cheerleader. Another Raiders cheerleader on the roster is Bianca La Russa, the daughter of St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa.
