Sutiyoso promises bonus for Thomas, Uber Cup team

Chairman of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Sutiyoso said the association would give a bonus to Indonesia`s Thomas and Uber Cup team if they can grab the men`s and women`s group champion titles.

But he could not yet disclose the amount of the bonus.

"A bonus will be given to the (badminton) players but the amount will depend on how much would be received from donors," he said when observing a training session of the Indonesian women`s Uber Cup team at the Istora on Friday.

On the target, meanwhile, the former Jakarta governor said PBSI wanted Sony Dwi Kuncoro and his friends to reach the finals of the Thomas Cup that will be held on May 11-18.

"We are now thinking how they could reach the finals as the strength of the squads for the Thomas Cup has remained almost the same. There are (strongest team) China and Malaysia. If we have reached the finals, let`s talk about the next target," he added.

For the women`s team, he predicted the Indonesian Uber Cup squad might reach the four biggest round.

The Indonesia`s women team grabbed the Uber Cup in 1996 in Hong Kong.
