If this comes off it will be the most incredible football story for a long time. The BBC in the East Midlands and other media agencies are staking out the Notts County ground ready for an 'announcement' expected tomorrow that former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will be appointed as director of football.

Notts County who are languishing in League 2 which iseffectively the lowest league of top flight soccer but have just been bought by by Munto Finance with huge backing from Arab partners.

Nottingham awaits with baited breath.

Notts County have made an audacious approach to Sven-Goran Eriksson in the hope that the former England manager will agree to join the League Two club and become director of football at Meadow Lane. Initial reports suggested that Eriksson might take over as manager at Notts County but the club's new owners, Munto Finance, are proposing a deal that would see the Swede take on a senior position, with Ian McParland continuing in charge of the first team

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is in talks with Notts County about becoming director of football, BBC Radio Nottingham understands.

The Magpies, who were recently taken over by a Middle-Eastern consortium, and Eriksson's agent Athole Still are refusing to confirm his involvement.
