The Swiss Bobsled team has pulled driver Daniel Schmid and driver Beat Hefti out of the Bobseld competition and off the controversial Whister Luge Track, and they have stated that the reason is that they fear for the athletes' safety.

Daniel Schmid was pulled out of both the two-man and four-man Bobsleigh events after Schmid and brakeman Juerg Egger crashed in the fifth training run. Egger had to be taken away in an ambulance and his condition is not known.

Just a few hours before, the Swiss team announced that driver Beat Hefti was out of the two-man, where they were the favourite to win Gold, as Hefti received a concussion during the first training run.

The crash was the latest in a string of overturned bobsleds during three days of bobsled training at the track on Blackcomb Mountain; Schmid, 34, also turned over on his first training run Wednesday.

Driver Ivo Rueegg is now the only driver that remains, but he is still scheduled to compete in the two-man and four-man events.

The Whistler Sliding Centre is the same track where Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died last Friday. There have been many that have said the track is too fast, including Venezuela luger Werner Hoeger.

The Skeleton event is set to go there in just under an hour and so far there have been no problems with the Skeleton sliders. Let's hope it stays that way.

Its a tough sport - there must be another reason other than safety.... the bobsleighers wouldn't want to pull out for these reasons whilst all their rival slide...
