Both team news:
Sydney Thunder have installed Daniel Smith as captain following the departure of David Warner but are yet to decide on who will open with Chris Gayle in Friday night's KFC T20 Big Bash League clash with Adelaide Strikers at ANZ Stadium.
Warner set the BBL alight with an explosive century against Melbourne Stars on the opening weekend but will now be on Test duty for the remainder of the tournament.
Smith was anointed skipper on Thursday but Thunder coach Shane Duff is keeping his cards close to his chest on how the top order will line up.
Dumped Test No.3 Usman Khawaja is among the candidates to open.
"We've got quite a few options there but we'll probably leave it a little longer before showing our cards," Duff told Sportal.
"It will depend a bit on the conditions and also the sort of side Adelaide go in with."
"They've got quite a few spinners in their squad so that may play a part in our thinking."
"We're adopting a horses for courses policy for each game."
"There are number of players who could open with Chris and I'm confident whoever we pick will do the job."
Smith echoed Duff's view, declaring: "He (Warner) is a big loss to any team but having said that when we put the squad together we knew there was a chance he'd only be available for one game."
"Whoever we go with up the top there I'm sure that player will do a fine job."
Gayle has recovered from a finger injury and will be eager to perform before his home crowd after a first-up failure.
"He looks good and has been in good spirits so there will be no problem there," Duff said.
"He got a good ball (to get him out) just after getting a knock on the finger the other night."
"He'll be keen to get among the runs."
Both sides head into the game as first-up winners, the low profile Strikers easily knocking over the Melbourne Renegades.
Spinners Bryce McGain and James Muirhead are both a chance to play, with coach Darren Berry hinting the visitors may play four spinners.
Berry said of the match: "On paper, they don't have strongest side in the world, but people look at the Adelaide Strikers and they don't think we’ve got the greatest side in the world."
"But in Twenty20 cricket, I always say 'play the game, not the name' - names are irrelevant in Twenty20 cricket."
