The whole nation is praying for a repeat from the Pakistani team of the performance which they showed against the Aussies in the last Super Eights match. If one goes by the records, Pakistan have traditionally dominated Sri Lanka in most forms of the game. Pakistan have won 16 of the 43 Tests, 77 of 132 ODIs and six out of nine Twenty20 encounters against Sri Lanka.
Geo News host Kamran Khan arranged a special discussion on the prospects of Pakistani team in the clash against the tough rivals in his programme “Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Saath” on Wednesday.
Kamran Khan said the contest at hand will be a different kind of challenge this time as Sri Lanka will play at their home ground in front of the home crowd. “Pakistan will have to cross a lot of milestones to win this eagerly-awaited contest,” he said.
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram taking part in the discussion said Sri Lanka have a strong bowling attack. He said Pakistan will have to negotiate Malinga and Mendis carefully. He said Pakistan will have a good chance of posting a big total if they win the toss and bat first. He said 160 will be a good total on this wicket.
Wasim said he is confident that Pakistan will play good cricket against Sri Lanka. He said Pakistan have 60 percent chance of winning this game.Senior Correspondent of Geo News Abdul Majid Bhatti told Kamran Khan from Colombo that on Wednesday the Pakistan team took rest in the day, while in the evening there was a long practice session.
He said a team meeting was held in the night to devise strategy for the all-important semis clash against Sri Lanka. He said preparations for the clash have been completed and the boys are fully focused on the job.
Majid Bhatti said Pakistan are going to adopt an aggressive strategy against the hosts to bring them under pressure from the outset. He said Sri Lanka have played four T20 matches at the Premadasa Stadium and lost all of them. On the other hand, he said, Pakistan have played four T20 matches on the same stadium and won three of them. In this way, he said, Pakistan have a psychological edge over Sri Lanka going into the semis clash.
Majid Bhatti said Pakistan are likely to persist with the winning combination against Sri Lanka.Kamran Khan while winding up the discussion reminded the audience of the 2009 World T20 glory in which Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the final to claim the title at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
“Three years have past since Pakistan claimed the World T20 title. Whatever the outcome of the semis clash against Sri Lanka, we will be here to tell you all about it,” Kamran Khan concluded.
