More than 20,000 fans of football and explosions, gathered to watch the Texas Stadium implosion Sunday morning. Texas stadium played host to the NFL's Dallas Cowboys for close to 40 years.
The Texas Stadium implosion took place at 7 am local time with thousands, including several former Cowboys players and cheerleader, looking on. Hundreds of fans gathered the night before the Texas Stadium implosion for one last tailgate party.

The Texas Stadium implosion took six months of planning, but only seconds for more than a ton of dynamite to demolish the stadium famous for its hole in the roof. The $6 million Texas Stadium demolition cost about $6 million, most of which was paid by levies on game tickets and parking during the Cowboys’ final three seasons at Texas Stadium. The Texas Stadium demolition even had garnered some corporate dollars, with Kraft Foods paying $75,000 to sponsor the implosion.
The Texas Stadium implosion was set off by Casey Rogers, an 11-year-old who won an essay-writing contest. Rogers got to push the button that set off the demolition.
It took about a minute for the Texas Stadium implosion to be completed. The planned demolition went relatively well. The only hitch was that three pillars leaned but didn't fall.
Why Did They Demolish Texas Stadium?
Texas Stadium was no longer being used by the Dallas Cowboys after they moved to Cowboys Stadium after the end of the 2008 season. With the nearby Cotton Bowl still in use, it was decided that the city didn't need a third football stadium.
What's Going to Happen at the Texas Stadium Site Now?
Irving plans to redevelop the 80-acre site in the heart of the Dallas metropolitan area.

To tell the truth, don't you think that society is wasting resources when we can't design facilities like this to last more than one generation?

Absolutely. Developers, designers etc... know enough now to realize that the duration of things we build will be under pressure to adapt to new uses way more quickly because of the increased speed of technological and cultural changes... a bit of foresight would be useful. It's made worse by the fact that these buildings in particular are made like giant hulks out in the middle of parking lots... and they don't fit into the urban fabric.
