Tiger Woods Becomes First Athlete Billionaire
Tiger Woods has become the first billionaire athlete. According to Forbes Magazine, Woods has recently surpassed $1 billion mark in career earnings.
The periodical said Woods cracked the plateau by winning the $10 million bonus at last week's PGA Tour Championship at Atlanta. Woods has been the world's highest-paid athlete since 2002. Forbes states that Woods earned approximately $895 million prior to the 2009 season.
Woods billion-dollar fortune surpasses that of retired basketball legend Michael Jordan, who is believed to have a net worth of around $800 million. MJ still earns $45 million thanks to his lucrative deal with Nike. Retired race car driver Michael Schumacher is third with an estimated worth of $700 million.
