Woods More Important Than Furyk?

Tiger Woods' first one-on-one interview since the sex scandal that broke in November aired last night. The much anticipated interview was broadcast at 7 PM EST on ESPN and Golf Channel, but the telecast interrupted the coverage of the PGA Transitions Tournament, where another golfer Jim Furyk was about to win his 14th career PGA title.

Transitions Optical, the chief sponsor of the PGA tournament, suggested the company management is upset over the choice of air time for Tiger Woods interview and the interruption of the golfing event.

"I would say that given our partnership with the Golf Channel, we are a little bit disappointed that they chose to air that story at the conclusion of a very exciting tournament," said David Cole, managing director for Transitions.

Furyk's Reaction

Given that personal nature of Tiger Woods interview, the interruption of a PGA tournament by ESPN and the Golf Channel stands a little odd. But, it seems weather is partially to blame. The tournament was delayed due to storms in Tampa, which led to the overlap in broadcast schedules.

Meanwhile, Jim Furyk's last win came in July of 2007 at Canadian Open. The thirty-nine-year-old golfer joked about the interruption, saying nobody was probably watching his win last night.

"I can live with it and I'm fine with it," Furyk said. "Some day it's all going to go away, and I'll be fine with that, as well."

Furyk is currently ranked 6th in PGA rankings. Tiger Woods remains in No. 1 position despite not having played since November 2009. Woods plans to make his comeback at the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in April of this year.
