On the Field with Tim Tebow

Florida Gator Tim Tebow is once again bringing his faith onto the football field, this time by inking "John 3:16" into his eye black before the BCS championship game.
Sports pundits are weighing in on either side, but I (just finding about this right now, while searching for hot stories) don't really care. Athletes wear religious medallions and tattoos all the time- why is this any different?

Florida won, by the way:

Controversy? The Gators didn't notice any controversy after the 24-14 win.
Many fans are crying foul, saying that religion and sports shouldn’t mix. Others say they really couldn’t care less, it’s eye black.
John 3:16, by the way, is sort of like the Cliff's Notes of Christianity (no offense to Christians or Cliff's Notes), and is often displayed at sporting events, though I'm not sure why:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16"

What a positive statement to make, and for him to have the courage to profess his faith!! We as Americans have been forced to see professional athletes as felonious thugs who have ZERO moral boundries. FINALLY someone has the courage to show young people there are other cards in the deck. I applaud his enthusiasm, victory and faith in Jesus Christ. Tim, if you read this, I'm so proud to be a brother in Christ.

I saw the game, and the eye black on Tim Tebow enough to read that it said "John 3:16."  I admired his play in the game and that he feels so strongly about his faith to do this mark-up of his face.  Still, though, I think it was too much of a play to the camera.  The game should be played without the politics of faith.

Tebow's display was offensive.

Matthew 6:5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

Hoo-ray for Tim and the Gators.  That's one for the good guys.

When I read that you are not sure why this is the "cliff notes" verse for christianity, I couln't believe it. I'm not trying to be a person who forces religion upon people but I would like to give you a little insight.

God gives us eternal life beyond just the life we are living right now! This is the greatest story on earth! The Creator of the Universe had enough love for us that he sent his son, Jesus, to die on the cross (probably one of most painful deaths possible) for our sins. The only thing we have to do to recieve this eternal life is to ask god for forgiveness for our sins. Everybody has sinned and fallin short of the perfection that Jesus displayed in coming to earth to take on human flesh. That is why we have to ask for his forgiveness. But that is all we have to do to gain ETERNAL LIFE. That is life forever with God in heaven! You couldn't ask for a better deal : ).

And just like Tim Tebow says after every news conference or interview:

"God Bless"

TIM TEBOW IS AWESOME FOR DOING THAT. GOD CALLS US TO TELL THE WORLD AND BE DISCIPLES. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE IS DOING. I ADMIRE TIM FOR HIS PASSION TO PROFESSHIS FAITH. AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO PROVE HIM WRONG WITH OTHER VERSES LIKE THE ONE ABOUT PRAYING OUT LOUD... LOOK AT CONTEXT AND PRAYING IS NOT PUTTING A VERSE ON YOUR FACE. GOD BLESS :)
