Tom Coughlin Resigns With New York Giants
In a story that TheCelebrityCafe.com was one of the first to report two weeks ago, the Giants and Coach Tom Coughlin have agreed on a four-year contract that will pay approximately $21 million.
The extension will be formally announced by the Super Bowl victors and their coach at a news conference Saturday.
Originally hired by the Giants in 2004, Coughlin signed a four-year, $12 million contract, Coughlin was almost fired after the 2006 season after the team significantly underperformed after a 6-2 start and crawled into the playoffs with an 8-8 record. But Coughlin was saved by the Giants management with a one-year extension.
Just a few months ago, before their magnificent run to the title, Coughlin appeared to be on the outs with the Giants. His team was struggling to beat some of the weakest competition in the league, but the team righted the ship and entered the playoffs at 10-6. More importantly they were coming off their strongest performance of the season against the New England Patriots. The same team they would defeat a little more than a month later in Super Bowl XLII.
