Troll to Tom Daley: 'You Let Your Dad Down'

Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield had a medal in Men's 10m Synchronised Diving in their grasp, losing it in the final dive.

The two men must have been devastated, but leave it to the internet to make it worse.

Twitter user @Rileyy_69 decided to have a go at Daley, tweeting, "@TomDaley1994  you let your dad down i hope you know that".

Tom Daley's father died of brain cancer in 2011 at the age of 40, just a few days after Tom turned 17. If Riley_69 was looking for trouble, well, he certainly found it. Daley noticed the tweet: "After giving it my all...you get idiot's sending me this..."

Diving fans, as well as people who just hate douchebags, pushed the #GetRileyy_69Banned hashtag to the fore. It got the point where British mainstream media took notice.

@Rileyy_69 then tweeted, "how am i trending worldwide?"

Kid, you're trending because you acted like a total shithead. Trolling has consequences.

The rest of the guy's Twitter stream (NSFW for language) does not paint a picture of a particularly nice guy. Will he get banned from Twitter by the microblogging platform's mods? Probably not. Will he be hounded off of Twitter by the rest of its users? Possibly.

As for Tom Daley, he still has an individual diving event ahead of him. This is Daley's second Olympics: he competed in Beijing as a 14-year-old, so, no, he doesn't suck.
