World Junior MVP and top prospect for this year's upcoming NHL entry draft John Tavares has been traded in the Ontario Hockey League.

Rumours were rampant during the recent world junior hockey championship that a trade involving highly touted forward John Tavares was imminent. Thursday, the rumours became reality.

Tavares, 18, waived his no-trade clause and was dealt to the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights from the Oshawa Generals on Thursday afternoon. Also heading to the Knights are 18-year-old defenceman Michael Del Zotto, a first-round pick of the New York Rangers in last summer's draft, as well as 19-year-old goaltender Daryl Borden.

Not surprisingly, the Generals get a large package that targets the future in return for the trio, including six draft picks.  Oshawa receives four second-round picks and two third-round picks during the next four priority selections, beginning this year. Three young players are also heading to the Generals, including 16-year-old Christian Thomas, the son of former NHLer Steve Thomas.

Defenceman Scott Valentine, 17, and goaltender Michael Zador, 17, will also be included in the deal.  Soucre : The National Post

The move to the London Knights is not surprising since their main rivals in the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires recently made a massive trade to bolster their lineup for the playoff run and the Knights needed to respond to ensure their own survival down the stretch.
