Troy Polamalu Injury: The Madden Curse?

Troy Polamalu's injury may be the next instance of the infamous Madden Curse. Troy Polamalu, a safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was chosen to appear on the cover of the Madden 2010 football video game by EA Sports... and just recently injured his ACL. This is the Madden Curse: if you appear on the cover of a MAdden video game, then your career will start to sink. So has it been since 1999. Hey, look what happened to Michael Vick... Perhaps the Madden Curse history is still being written.

In fact, fans take the Madden curse so seriously that when the San Diego Chargers' LaDainian Thompson was tipped o appear on the cover of Madden 2004, his fans staged a petition to save him. Thompson eventually opted not to appear, due to "contract obligations", and not, he asserts, due to superstition.

As for Troy Polamalu, we'll see what happens: he's meant to be sidelined for three to six weeks.

His left knee MCL sprain, suffered late in the first half after he had put on a play-making clinic against the Titans, is being estimated as a three-to-six week injury at this early juncture. Without question that's a blow for last year's top-ranked defense.

Troy Polamalu was on the field when the Steelers blocked a Tennessee field goal in the second quarter of their win over the Titans and picked up an MCL sprain. It's rumored that Troy Polamalu is the next to fall victim to the Madden Jinx, where players on Madden covers for the football video games get injuries after they appear on the cover, as a result of some hoodoo curse. Some Madden curse history – Shawn Alexander was on the cover and picked up an injury, lost form, and got fired. Michael Vick – don't get us started. Donovan McNabb and Brett Favre all got injured, and now Troy Polamalu - perhaps getting online loans is safer than being on Madden NFL.
