I watched the match with a group of friends on TV as we celebrated a birthday and had a delicious ¨Ceviche¨

Before the game that took place this Sunday at the Giants Stadium, our expectations were not high at all, Mexico had not been playing well, but there was hope.

The first half of the game was very tight, 0-0 yet suddenly the game changed, giving Mexico a 5 to 0 victory.

A devastating loss for U.S.A , a victory of vindication for Mexico.

Great sports victories should be shared by all Americans. So must be devastating losses.

That’s how the U.S. players felt Sunday following a 5-0 defeat against Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final.

The rout not only ended a decade without a victory over the Americans on U.S. soil, but it gave the Mexicans a nice boost heading into an Aug. 12 World Cup qualifier at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Vindication. Satisfaction. Domination.

After finally earning a win against the Americans on U.S. soil, Mexico’s players used all of those words Sunday to describe the 5-0 romp that gave them their fifth Gold Cup championship.

Oh, and one other noun: pride.

“I believe this is a great win for Mexico because we showed the pride we have in our hearts today,” Giovani Dos Santos said. “This is a huge step for us in the process.”

That process had included no progress this decade when the United States hosted its southern rival. The Mexicans were 0-9-2 since a March 1999 victory at San Diego.

This was obviously Mexico's day.  Congratulations on a major effort and winning the Gold Cup.

After the US's team good show at the recent Confederation Cup where they beat Spain and gave Brazil a good run for their money, it will be back to the drawing board.

Mexico will definitely have the mental advantage going to the World Cup qualifier in Mexico City on Aug 12th.

No need to go to the drawing board.  A different U.S. team will be playing on Aug 12th.  Not to take anything away from the victory of Mexico, but they played an entirely different U.S. team than played in the Confederation cup, since most of the U.S. starters didn't play.  So while great win for Mexico, the A and not C team of the U.S. will play the 12th.

Well this wasn't Mexico's A team either. None of their key players where present!  so we will have to see.

I covered the Gold Cup quarterfinal matches in Arlington, TX for Texian Army TV, a supporters group media organization. We initially cover Houston Dynamo events around the league, but have started branching out to other soccer events in Houston and Dallas.

The new Cowboys Stadium is a spectacular state-of-the-art venue. Covering this event was a pleasure.
