UFC 91 Results - Brock Lesnar Defeats Randy Couture
In one of the most surprising UFC results in years, former WWE star Brock Lesnar defeated veteran Randy Couture at UFC 91 to become the new heavyweight champion.
The Lesnar vs. Couture fight was one of the most anticipated UFC heavyweight bouts in years, matching a MMA legend against a promising newcomer. In the end, the hulking 280-pound Lesnar simply overpowered the more knowledgable Couture, who was unable to use his guile and experience to outwit his younger opponent.
Lesnar won the first round of the fight, after scoring several takedowns. In the second round, Couture appeared to have the upper hand after catching Lesnar with an elbow, causing him to bleed from his right eye.
Lesnar quickly responded with a hard right that dropped Couture. Lesnar continued to pummel Couture on the ground until referee Mario Yamasaki finally stopped the fight at the 3:07 mark of the the second round.
For many, the fight signals a changing of the guard. Legendary fighters like Couture may have to make way for a new breed of heavyweights like Lesnar, who mix techical ability with strength and athleticism.
Video of the Lesnar vs. Couture fight can be found here.
While the UFC has yet make an announcement, it is believed Lesnar will likely defend his title against Frank Mir or Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Great write up! These guys are both incredible athletes. The match was a kind of freak show, though. Many of us have been asking for more weight categories above 205, like 206-225 heavy, 226-245, super heavy, etc. It only makes sense. I mean Randy losing to this guy doesn't really say much about either of them, as would more evenly matched fight, IMHO.
Shocked as I was by my man Randy's defeat, I gotta admit it was a fabulously entertaining fight. Randy is awesome. His humility in defeat is exemplary. He'll be back for sure. Soon, I hope!
Great card. Great fights. Dana delivered another exhilarating evening as promised.
