The Ultimate Fighter - Kimbo vs. Nelson will be HUGE
The Ultimate Fighter is about to witness the biggest “spike” in viewership it has ever seen as the face of this seasons show, Kimbo Slice, will put it all on the line this coming Wednesday.
What is shocking is that it comes just two episodes into the series. I’m not sure how Dana White feels about his start possibly being eliminated so early, and there is a very real possibility of that. Kimbo Slice is going up against Roy Nelson, who many consider to be the favorite to win the show.
Nelson is a former IFL heavyweight champion that carries with him a ton of experience against some top-tier heavyweight opponents, something that Kimbo is clearly lacking. Despite what you’ve seen on the internet the competition Slice has faced is nothing compared to what Nelson has already seen.
If you look at their history, Kimbo is clearly lacking the kind of high level opponents that Nelson has faced. He has fought Bo Cantrell, Tank Abbott, James Thompson and Seth Petruzelli, a bout he lost.
Roy Nelson won seven of his last ten pro scraps with his three losses coming against the likes of Ben Rothwell, Andrei Arlovski and Jeff Monson. Give the edge in experience to Nelson.
What isn’t in question is that this coming episode is no doubt going to be a banner day for the UFC and Spike TV. It was no accident that they announced the Kimbo fight on last week’s show just to get the hype train rolling, and clearly it has.
There is talk that this fight will not only be the number one rated episode in the history of the series but may be one of the most watched MMA bouts ever.
Although this fight has already happened and the winner has already been determined, the UFC and this season's cast have been able to keep the result of this bout and the series for that matter, under wraps. You’ll just have to tune in to find out if the street fighting legend from the mean streets of Florida is for real, or if he’s just an internet sensation.

Yea, most fight fans want Kimbo to win
at 14:54 on September 25th, 2009
he's just such a beast and totally unpredictible... which is why he's great for reality tv too.
at 15:07 on September 25th, 2009
Well he is the most popular street fighter and MMA fighter on YouTube...and his attitude and looks makes him entertaining where ever he's at

Great article. The relavancy regarding the Kimbo/Nelson fight is important as boxing, no doubt, is trying to tackle away some of the audience that MMA has gotten from them. So, Kimbo/Nelson is HUGE. Good stuff, Joe.

Most definitely, Thanks D, nicely put

Kimbo is going to knock him out. Nelson has a weak chin man - he's fought good competition but he's always lost.
at 15:53 on September 25th, 2009
I don't know, B.

Nelson gots a lot more experience but hopefully Kimbos style and aggression will be enough to beat him. If he stays away from the ground and sprawls the take down attempts he will be ok.

Whatever! This Fighting stuff just leads to more violence in our society. These guys should find a better sport to promote.
at 21:18 on September 25th, 2009
How does it lead to more violence? They keep it in the cage, besides, martial arts teaches you discipline and gives you a way to vent.
at 17:34 on September 25th, 2009
I have a strange feeling Kimbo may win even though Nelson is way better on the ground.
at 21:22 on September 25th, 2009
Anything can happen in MMA, like i said before, kimbo just need to sprawl the takedown attempts. i heard his ground game got better.

Do these guys like kick each other and stuff? Or do they just like attempt to sit on each other's face? I say this because an "ultimate fight" is a no-holds-barred fight. And there's nothing "ultimate" about these so-called "ultimate" fights. "Ultimate" in the world of a real fighter and warrior means living or dying. I know a few guys that can show Kimbo and the other punk the white light. I'm willing to bet on it . . .how much do you want to bet?

Definition of ultimate: Being last in a series, process, or progression. This is a elimination match, the last man gets a UFC contract.
There is always going to be someone better out there, and we all have our dream match ups. UFC allows us to see some of the best dream match ups but we have to but up with the matches that makes you ask "Do these guys like kick each other and stuff? Or do they just like attempt to sit on each other's face? " Not all the fights can be dream matches...

Ah...so this is all about who gets to go the next level. Kimbo and Nelson are on the B Level ready to go to the A level. Makes sense.
at 17:54 on September 27th, 2009
Well more like D level because the winner will have to fight around 3 more people I believe.
at 22:39 on September 25th, 2009
Ali would have laid every one of them on their arses!
at 22:51 on September 25th, 2009
Yes, Ali would beat any UFC/MMA fighter...in a boxing match
at 21:19 on September 28th, 2009
Ali was not an american and no Fedor would have killed him. Well lets see alot of guys would since he was to affraid to be a real american
at 12:29 on September 29th, 2009
What does being or not being American have to do with anything?

Kimbo Slice is the man!!! Although he did look pretty pathetic the last time I saw him!!
at 07:21 on September 26th, 2009
Your comments are contradicting each other, especially because you did not elaborate on how kimbo is the man.
Yes, Kimbo did look pathetic in is last fight against Seth Petruzelli. It was a controversial fight, some people think he lost on purpose. Kimbo was the one who had the power to make or break EliteXC, we all know how that ended up...
at 08:45 on September 26th, 2009
Wow. So, maybe he sandbagged to ruin EliteXC, eh? That's interesting!
at 18:02 on September 27th, 2009
There was a lot of speculation surrounding that fight but there is no concrete evidence.
Another thing was that Seth commented that it was worth his while to stay standing up against Kimbo, he later said that his comment was misinterpreted. Either way, "The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation started a preliminary investigation on the events surrounding the fight and its outcome. " - Wikipedia

This is all very interesting stuff. I'm wondering if they will ever get to the bottom of it. I'm finding this stuff to be fascinating.
at 07:45 on September 28th, 2009
Yes its pretty interesting. Here was the result of the investigation:
"On October 23, 2008, The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation concluded its investigation of the bout and found no wrongdoing.[32] By the end of October 2008, EliteXC was forced to file for bankruptcy.[33] Many in the mixed martial arts community, including Jay Thompson, executive consultant to the company, attributed EliteXC and ProElite's failure due to Slice's loss to Seth Petruzelli. " - Wikipedia

Thumbs up!

Thanks, I want Kimbo to win because he is the underdog.
