Doing a biking tour of Italy is probably the safest way to visit Italy. You can travel with your family or in small groups.

All you have to do is to get a map of Italy, make yourself a specific route and go have fun.

You can choose to organize it by yourself or book a tailor made tour of a local bicycle guide. It's better to have a guide that lead you to some of the most exquisite Italian sites, romantic restaurants, scenic paths and incredible villages.

Be sure to wear good biking shoes, a hat, and clothing that will neither be too hot nor too cold (avoid cotton). Pack a water bottle and any energy snacks you might need along the way.

A great way to get out of a large city or town and start pedaling in the country or get back to your car if you are not doing a loop could be to take your bike in the train.

There will be a bike symbol on the list of departing trains at the station and also on the TrenItalia website (www.trenitalia.com).

In addition to your train ticket, you will need to purchase a ticket for the bike. The ticket is in two parts; one for the handlebars of your bike and the other to keep with your train ticket.

The ticket is good for 24 hours so you can use it on the way back as well.
