UPDATE: Good news for Manchester United as they announce that Possebon's injury is not as bad as at first appeared and his leg is not broken. He spent the night in hospital and now is being checked over for ligament problems.

Horror tackle on Manchester United starlet Rodrigo Possebon

The two footed studs up tackle strikes again and this time puts the career of young Rodrigo Possebon, making his first start for Manchester United, in danger of ending before it begins. It was Middlesbrough captain Emanuel Pogatetz who commited the foul and was shown a straight red card but refused initially to leave the pitch claiming innocence as Possebon's sock leaked blood from what later turns out to be a bad break of the leg.

United turned out 3-1 winners with Ronaldo making a great comeback after injury and veteran Giggs playing an important roll in the match which had to be stopped for a full ten minutes after Possebon's horrific injury.

Sir Alex Ferguson attacked Emanuel Pogatetz for his horror tackle on Manchester United youngster Rodrigo Possebon.

The Middlesbrough skipper was shown a straight red for the twofooted challenge which left Brazilian teenager Possebon with a suspected broken leg and blood pouring from a gaping wound on his right shin.

Fergie said: "I've seen the challenge again on a television replay and I don't want to see it again.

"The boy has gone to hospital. It was a really bad one. For the kid to make his first start for us and get an injury like that was pretty horrendous."

Possebon had to be stretchered from the pitch and was later taken to hospital after being on the receiving end of a brutal challenge from Emanuel Pogatetz.

The Boro captain scythed down the United youngster with a knee-high lunge that earned him a red card and looks to have broken the 19-year-old's leg.

Sir Alex Ferguson was clearly distressed by the incident and almost came to blows with members of Middlesbrough's coaching staff on the touchline.

“One of their bench was screaming that it wasn’t even a sending off,” fumed the United manager.

Pogatetz is likely to face additional charges, not only for the severity of the offence but also for claiming innocence and refusing to leave the field after being dismissed.

What a terrible challenge, but thanks for the haiku.

thanks for posting the video - it just looks so horrific - you almost see the leg break... it bends with the impact and yet the player tried to protest innocence at first.. whew!
