Upper Arlington Football Poster Shocker: Players Make Bad Gesture
The 2009 Upper Arlington Golden Bears football poster is causing a stir in Ohio because it features eight players making clearly offensive gestures to the camera. The Upper Arlington football poster shocker made local headlines after it was printed and distributed to Ohio businesses without anybody noticing the hand gestures. It wasn't until customers at local businesses commented on the posters that anybody realized there was a problem.
The eight Golden Bears players in question have been suspended from playing one football game and the posters have been collected in a sort of recall, but the damage to the reputation of Upper Arlington High School has been done. One can't help but wonder how a poster with not just one, but eight players making an unspecified offensive hand gesture, was not only printed but also distributed in the community.
I'm not sure which is the biggest shocker in the Upper Arlington Golden Bears football poster scandal; that teen-aged football players acted crudely or that no adults even noticed until the posters were printed and put up in the community. Didn't any adult from Upper Arlington High School look at the football poster first?
The picture appeared on a team poster that was posted inside city businesses, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.
The posters are common among high school sports teams and are usually distributed to businesses by parents or booster clubs.
SLIDESHOW: Images From Report
10TV obtained a copy of the picture showing the football players. Nine of them can be seen posing with the sexual hand gesture, Mallett reported.
The poster of the Upper Arlington football squad was displayed by businesses in the Columbus suburb. Store owner Tom Capuano says he noticed passersby pointing at the picture, but he assumed they knew members of the team.
Upper Arlington High School Principal Kip Greenhill says the nine players will sit out Friday night’s home game against Findlay High School, from northwest Ohio.

"Offensive hand gestures"? Now I really want to know what it was. If it was just the boring ol' middle finger, then surely the source article would have just said so. I have a theory, though.
Fine. I'll say it. I bet it was the shocker.

Tina, You know, from your verbage, what the shocking gesture was. Most folks over the age of 25 do not know what that gesture means and do not realize it is offensive to some people. Also, get your story correct. The administration from another school noticed it. No one, not one person noticed it, except for the students. No one in the community and none of the business owners knew what it was and everyone thought it was a great poster. Don't blame the adults. The guys knew it was wrong and at that age they should not need to be babysat. And yes Jordan it was the shocker.

First off....as a colleigate coach. Hand gestures in anyway should never be allowed. Student athletes must be reminded that they no only represent themselves, but their family, friends and community. Whethere they like it or not they are role models.
