Canadian tennis sensation Aleksandra Wozniak has caused major uproar on the tennis courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center today. Wozniak, who is currently seeded No. 39 in the world, beat former No.1 Amelie Mauresmo of France.

Wozniak won by scores of 6-4, 6-0 in the opening match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadow, N.Y., to advance to the tournament's third round for the first time.

In other interesting matches today, Rafael Nadal was back on the court for the first time in many months after sustaining a knee injury. Nadal breathed past Richard Gasquet of France. The Spaniard will seek to go back up in the ratings. Nadal is currently No.3 in the world. Among others who advanced today were Venus Williams, Vera Zvonareva, Victoria Azarenka, and Kim Clijsters. Russia's Marat Safin suffered a huge disappointment today. Former World No.1 lost to Austria's Juergen Melzer. Matches involving Roger Federer and Serena Williams are still in progress.
