USA almost makes Confederation Cup History - But Brazil wins 3-2
Oddmakers had Brazil winning the final of the Confederation Cup by 4-0. In an exciting match in Johannesburg, South Africa, Brazil overcame a 2-0 deficit and beat the hard fighting US team 3-2. Only one word comes to mind for this game amd the performance of the United States Soccer team, Astonishment.
At halftime the USA led by 2-0, with goals by Dempsey in the 10th minute and Donavan in the 27th minute.
Fabiano scored for Brazil in the opening minuteof the second half, reducing the score to 2-1 lead for the US. In the 75th minute Fabiano tied the game after a pass in front of the net by Kaka. This was Lois Fabiano's fifth goal in the tournament.
Lucio scored the winning goal with just 7 minutes left to go, taking away the hope of the hard fighting US team. The final score was 3-2
Again, the US team demonstrated determination, a willingness to fight for every ball and great defensive play in the first half. They essentially shut down the Brazilian defense and were able to take advantage of counter-attacks. The Brazilian team came out determined to overcome their deficit and in a thriller did not disappoint by eventually defeating the US 3-2.
Full credit goes to the US team. They have definitely overachieved in this tournament. They have proven that they can play with the big boys, eliminating Spain, the European Champion, in the semifinal.
Hats off to the US team, which must be disappointed having come so close to winning the Confederation Cup. They have nothing to be ashamed of.
The skill and team spirit demonstrated in this game by the US team can only help to advance the beautiful game in North America.

Yes he U.S. demonstrated that they have arrived. No small feat to beat the European Champion Spain and give Brazil a good run for their money.

Landon Donovan is going to be a force to be reckoned with in this up and coming worlds cup!! Very Impressive!!

I've watched Landon play with Bayern Munich when he was on loan from the Galaxy. He is definitely showing maturity and a real knack for scoring. Personally I was impressed with all of the US team. Their defence was strong and their one touch game to move the ball was very impressive. Overall a job well done even though they missed the final prize.

Us soccer team - Congratulations. The dificulties to play with feet were left behind by this impressive presentation. They proved that no one is unbeatable. Well let's play more. Brazil's soccer team should schedule more games in Us fields. Sport is life.

Doesn't mean that much, but the US did well, next year is the big one.

I agree with your comment agdobson. This tournament, however, was a great test for the US team and it also must have raised their confidence level in preparation for the World Cup next year.

we have two posts, one story so I'll just repeat my comment! sorry!
I think U.S.A have a lot to be proud about. A month ago no one would have betted on an American team reaching any final? And one against the greatest team in the world, Brazil, U.S.A only lost 3-2, that's a very neat scoreline. They beat many good teams on the way.
Team U.S.A have done more for American soccer than David Beckham could ever do!
Well done team, U.S.A.!

A young, home grown team, has accomplished what no big European star could do for American soccer. America can relate to this team, especially those that follow the MSL.
