Vancouver 2010 Olympics: German Fan Fest Beer Garden Opens
The German Fan Fest beer garden on Water Street in the Steamworks Brewery parking lot opened today as a part of the celebrations for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. The "German Fan Fest - powered by Thüringen" is comprised of a tent with around 600 square meters serving the finest in Deutchland delicacies like Thuringian Dumplings, grilled sausage, and the "Thüringer Rostbrätl," a special flavoured pork chop. But of course, this is a beer garden so there will be beer no doubt.
Located at 555 West Cordova Street, sandwiched between Waterfront Station and Steamworks Brewery, the German Fan Fest will feature nightly entertainment starting at 7 p.m. by Accostica, a regional band from Thuringia. A slew of other events and promotions will be taking place sporadically for the duration of the games including on Valentine's Day when the first 20 couples will receive a rose as well as an auction on February 28.
The German Fan Fest will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. starting Today, February 11 and running through February 28.

It should be called Bavarian fest, since that is where beer is most popular, North German and East German (the large majority of Germans) are not such beer fans and more inclined to favour tea and or with Snaps, Rum or Vodka.
The French consume more beer per capita then the German do.

uwe, the most populated states in germany are bavaria, baden-wuerttemberg, hessen, and rhineland-pfalz, which make up a total of around 40 million people. so the large majority of Germans are definitely NOT (former) East German! And as far as I know, Becks, which can be bought anywhere around the globe, is brewed in Bremen. And while Bavaria has (in my opinion ;) ) some of the best beers, pils is very common everywhere else in Germany. Just because Munich has the Octoberfest, doesn't mean the other states don't drink beer! I think German Fan Fest is a pretty good name for the place, and will probably confirm some expectations that people have of Germans. lol

@uwe: As its a fan fest by the Thuringian sports assoc with Thuringian food and Thuringian beer - why should it be called Bavarian?Beer - as in Pils, Lager, or dark beers - is mainly a middle German and Czech affair (along the Rhine, in Hesse, Thuringia, Anhalt, and Saxony). Bavarians brew a different kind of beer. But of course, as they tend to have the best weather in Germany, Bavarians are the most public beer drinkers...

Uwe Paschen, that comment is unnecessary and dim-witted. The basis of the Olympics is national pride and you are seemingly making a point of being pedantic, by googling facts to feign personal knowledge, in an attempt to devaluate a perfectly good part of the Vancouver Olympic Celebrations. You waste peoples time and should look for a better suited venue for your 'opinions'. "The French consume more beer per capita then the German do"; Thanks.

Thomas call it Thuringian fest if you will, but not German beer fast. Evan I am not a fan of nationalism as is and even less of the Olympic games as they are today.
The Olympic is a waste of time and resources. Sorry, just my opinion.

you should probably stay home and drink more tea!, as this is both nationalism, olympic fervor and fun

We will be there! Crusin up Saturday from Vancouver WA (the FIRST Vancouver!) to watch our lovely "Fast Frauleins" AKA the German Luge team and some hockey games too! Used to live in Bavaria years decades ago, so I'm looking forward to a REAL German bier tent! www.kraushaar.us

When I think of germans, I think of the movie BEERFEST! I hope that this tent is over run with crazy drunken germans in their funny outfits and bad music. I personally prefer canadian lagers and not skunky euro beers. Welcome to Canada you crazy Krauts. PS - Bring your schnitzel and some of those hot blondes, but leave those euro-fags at home.

I visited the German Fan Fest today. I arrived in the line at 3pm and was inside by 3.45. Not too bad. I chatted with the crowd and everybody seemed to be in a good mood. The line grew quickly though, so I recommend you come at least an hour before you intend to get in. Probably double that in the evening. Take a look at my short video to see my experience: gobart.tv/2010/02/15/german-fan-fest-pavilion/

UWE - "North German and East German (the large majority of Germans) are not such beer fans" ScheiBe - I have spent many holidays and weekends with my family in the Rhur gebiet and I can say that they love their beer. Go Fiege Pils. Crazy Canuck - "personally prefer canadian lagers and not skunky euro beers". Lager and Beer and two different drinks, Canadian lager is not as good as Euorpean Lager and Wheat beer in Euope is very tasty.... however I do enjoy a coors light on a hot Vancouver afternoon.

That is crap :D I can tell because I am from North Germany (Luebeck in fact) and I have to say we love beer too :D and I hate tea. So would you mind to be quiet if you don't have an idea about how things are going in North Germany. Thanks! Oh and by the way, I'm right now in the US and I really would like to go to Vancouver and watch the Olympics :D and of course stop by and visit the "Bier Zelt" :)
