Vancouver Motorcycle Show: Lust on Two Wheels
I visited the Vancouver Motorcycle Show last night. Manufacturers from Japan and Korea to Germany and the US of A were on hand, showing off thier latest and greatest bikes. Also, we got to check out helmets, ballistic jackets and racing suits, storage and pannier equipment, touring packages, insurance info, and lots more; the videos to the right will give you a better idea of what to expect.
More of a sportbike person than a cruiser afficionado, I really dug the Kawasaki and Suzuki lines, as well as the somewhat-elusive KTM Super Duke. Also, KTM's booth taught me that I am indeed too short for their adventure bikes: my toes touch the ground on pavement, but mud would be a much squidgier story. The ever-more-popular Ducati was pimping its new 848, which doesn't excite me as much as their more retro styles. Harley-Davidson was there (duh), showing off their cruisers as well as the Buell like of hooligan-tastic street bikes. I also saw a Husqvarna motard in the flesh for the first time; it tempted me toward the dark side...
Several custom shops were also present, showing off what can be done with an acetyline torch and a wicked imagination. NowPublic Operations Manager Nicole Billard scored a customized helmet that depicts an orange fire-breathing dragon clutching a skull. I kid you not.
It was Ladies' Night, but we're not talking bikini babes and baby oil-- these women were firmly in the cockpit . Female riders currently comprise something like ten percent of motorcyclists, but that number is growing, which is a great thing for both the sport and the pastime.
Located in Abbotsford, the Tradex center in which this event is held is a bit of a jaunt from Vancouver's city center, but not too bad. It was like getting lost in a toy store. I totally thought of Moonwolf and Kearney! Any other NP riders out there?
