American tennis all-star Venus Williams has been knocked out of The Australian Open by Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain. Williams entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed and was expected by fans and bookmakers to excel throughout the tournament but the 20 year old first timer managed to out play her when it counted. The seven time grand slam winner had this to say after the second round knockout.

"I've seen her play before, but obviously she played very well, one of her best matches she ever played," Williams said.

"When you go out on the court you've got to expect anything, so everyone out here's professional and capable of playing so I'm not surprised at how well she played."

Williams served for the match at 5-3 in the deciding set and held a match point on her opponents serve in the following game. Navarro stayed confident though and managed to win in the next 5 games of the match and eventually clinch a victory.

This is the first time in three years that Williams has fallen early in the tournament after a first round knockout in the 2006 Australian Open.
