UPDATE: 19.12.07 - The league has decided to suspend Simon for 30 games.
New York Islanders forward Chris Simon again leads the NHL for the longest suspension after being punished 30 games Wednesday for stepping on Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu
Islanders owner Charles Wang met Simon earlier today to discuss the direction best suited to provide Simon with the support he deserves.
Simon has been granted time away from the team to seek counselling, or any other method to help restore his career.
This was a senseless act of a violence and has no place in the game of hockey, or any sport. He should be banned for life.
Isles forward Chris Simon received a match penalty for trying to stomp on Jarkko Ruutu's foot with about six minutes left.Simon completed a 25-game suspension earlier this season for a vicious hit on Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg last season.
See the video of the stomp here and here for Simon's earlier assault.
