Washington vs West Virginia: Live 'Sweet 16' 2010 Coverage
West Virgina (2) Take on Washington (11) in Sweet 16 Action for March Madness 2010
The Washington Huskies are looking to continue their strong run in the NCAA 2010 tournament with an upset over the West Virginia Mountaineers. And the player most capable of making that upset a reality may not even step on the court.
The Mountaineers will be without their starting point guard Darryl Bryant, who broke his foot during practice earlier in the week. But even his injury doesn't make West Virginia's confidence slip.
The Big East champions had reason to be confident. Following a 68-59 win over Missouri on Sunday, West Virginia was on an eight-game winning streak and led by a shutdown defense that held each of its past five opponents to under 60 points. They feature a clutch senior in Butler, who has made six game-winning shots this season and proved unstoppable in scoring 28 against Missouri.
But West Virginia would do well no to underestimate the run-and-gun Huskies, who have won 9 in a row and 14 of 16 overall, who are making a habit of upsetting higher seeds. Washington has already rolled past Marquette (6) and New Mexico (3).
Washington is led by senior forward Quincy Pondexter who chips in 18 ppg, and the team is being run by point guard Isiah Thomas, living up to his namesake with 17.1 ppg while dishing out 3 assists.
Washington at West Virgina kicks off at 7:27 ET on CBS, and follow NowPublic's live Twitter feed for up to date action.
