England striker Wayne Rooney and his wife, Coleen, are going on holiday following England's exit from the 2010 World Cup. However, the holiday, which includes yachts in Barbados and nightlife in Vegas, was booked more than two days before England crumbled in the face of the German onslaught.

This was the first time in 24 years that England failed to make it out of the Round of 16, and fans are livid. Indeed, several players, as well as coach Fabio Capello, are steering clear of England.

While contingency plans are understandable, fans will question where Rooney's head was during that last game: in Bloemfontein, or in Barbados?

He is part of an exodus of England players and staff fleeing rather than staying at home to face the wrath of fans.

Within hours of arriving at Heathrow yesterday, manager Fabio Capello had grabbed his bags again and jetted off on holiday with his wife.

A:3K Canceled

Wayne Rooney and Stephen Gerrard pulled out of the A:3K soccer skills event at the O2 Arena, which was scheduled for July 17. They said it would be inappropriate for them to appear after England's performance in South Africa. The event has since been postponed until 2011.

The State of English Football

In decrying the "terrible" World Cup squad in The Independent, Andy Cole writes that the English Premiership's level of skill does not translate to international victory because England does not develop its local talent properly, instead importing superstars from abroad. As such, the state of English football has steadily decayed while fans still expect the moon and the stars.

Why were England so bad? Because, frankly, our best players are just not as good as everyone says, and the rest of the team are just average. Those who do have the ability to change games didn't turn up to play at this tournament. And by those players, I mean Stevie Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney – much as it pains me to write those words.
