Tragedy Struck As High School Basketball Player Wes Leonard Hit a Game Winning Shot and Then Died

In a tragic turn of events, Wes Leonard, a high school basketball player from Michigan, hit a game-winning layup for a state title and then collapsed and died.

Paramedics on the scene tried to save Wes Leonard. He was rushed to a local hospital in cardiac arrest and later died.

A cause of death for Wes Leonard has not been determined as of yet.

A star football and basketball player, Wes Leonard led Fennville High to an undefeated season and a state title game against Bridgman. In the final, Wes Leonard gave Fennville the lead with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Bridgman was unable to tie the game, giving Fenneville a state title and a perfect season. After the win, Leonard fell to the floor as fans and teammates celebrated.

The death of Wes Leonard has shocked and saddened the entire community.

“I just heard the gym go quiet, and I went in with our team and I came back out and helped the managers clean up the bench, and I could tell by the look on people’s faces the severity of it,” said Norton, one of about 30 people remaining in the gym after Leonard’s ambulance left. “I went back in to tell my coach to keep the guys in the locker room, and they already had a pretty good idea of what was going on, and one of our players (Josiah Badger) was leading our team in a prayer when I walked back in.”
