Many football fans find themselves watching the Thanksgiving Day game between Texas and Texas A&M and are asking themselves: What Does Texas A&M Stand For?

The answer is relatively simple: Texas A&M stands for Texas Agriculture & Mechanical.

Texas A&M's name reflect the school's interesting history. The school was started in 1876 and was meant to teach men about farming and military techniques. At the time all students were required to receive military training and serve in the Corps of Cadets. It wasn't until 1879 that the school started to truly develop its agriculture department.

Today, Texas A&M's football team is named, a reference to the school's agricultural heritage.
