NP Rank:
What is going on with mushangazhike?
One can ask himself or her-self a question based on the way Football coaches do their job. It is highly acknowledged that Orlando Pirates head coach, Rudi Krol, started the season with Gilbert Mushangazhike as his number one striker but things have changed completely for the Zimbabwean marksman. With the arrival of Katlego Mashego, Krol seems to have changed his mind.
Gilbert only featured once as a strike partner to Mashego with Siphelele Mthembu commanding a more regular place in the team. Even tonight, Krol hasn’t changed anything as the two young strikers will be leading the attack for Bucs, while Mushangazhike looks from the sidelines. Has Gilbert fallen out of favour?
“Honestly, it hasn’t been an easy ride for Gidza in the second round and the supporters were starting to get on his back. I think the coach is doing a right thing by taking him off the pressure, especially since the Mashego-Mthembu combination hasn’t been doing bad at all. Gidza is an experienced player and he takes no offence in watching from the bench and he always encourages the two guys to work even harder. He’s a complete professional and nothing has changed even with his attitude, as other players would do,” said our source.
Interestingly, before Mashego’s arrival, the impression was that Pirates only needed someone to play alongside Mushangazhike upfront, to complete the puzzle. Now things have turned from bad to worse for the former Zimbabwean international.
With injuries and suspensions rocking the Bucs ship, the crew can reveal that a couple of changes will be seen in the Pirates line-up against Bay United tonight. The crew has been reliably informed that Happy Jele will be back in the team as a right back, with Rooi Mahamutsa covering the left back position. Lucky Lekgwathi and Lehlohonolo Seema will be forming the centre of defence, trying to maintain Pirates’ best defensive record so far this season.
