Wolfpack Hustle: Bicycles vs Jets During Carmageddon
Cyclists to race airplanes during Carmageddon: #flightvsbike
Jetblue offered $4 intracity commuter flights during Carmageddon, which sold out pretty much instantaneously. The flights from Burbank to Long Beach are tipped to be the fastest way to get to the West Side during the 405 Freeway shutdown. Tom Vanderbuilt idly speculated that a bicycle would be the fastest way to make the journey.
One thing led to another, and a cycling group called the Wolfpack Hustle is throwing down the gauntlet, vowing to race a plane to Long Beach. The riders roll out on Saturday, July 16 at 10:50am, while the plane takes off at 12:20pm.
Here's how it will go down: the Wolfpack Hustle will start out from Cahuenga and Chandler 90 minutes before flight time, mirroring the cutoff for domestic passengers. They will then pedal their asses off towards Shoreline Aquatic Park, hoping to get there before a 40-minute commuter flight can get there; once they land, Joe Anthony and Ezra Horne (let's call 'em Team Flight) will take a cab (their certain undoing) for the final stretch from the airport to the park..
Is this even possible? Yes.
It's only 39 miles from North Hollywood to Shoreline Park. Google maps calls it a 47-minute drive or a 3 hour, 25 minute bike ride. No way that ride would take that long, especially with extra-congested traffic.
What, you think these guys stop at every stop-sign?
We climb walls we break into shit we scuttle through hoods like rats on the run.
My money's on the Wolfpack Hustle to kick Team Flight's ass. Follow the action with #flightvsbike.
