The 108th U.S. open started today with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson being the outstanding favourites. Woods, coming off his longest layoff since losing his father, will make an attempt to win his third Open title but will have to fend off Mickelson who is still waiting to grab his first U.S. Open championship.
It may have been a dream threesome. It was anything but a dreamy start for Tiger Woods at the U.S. Open, though.
Playing in the tournament's power group with Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott, Woods opened with an unsightly double bogey at Torrey Pines on Thursday, a bad start to his first competitive round since knee surgery after the Masters.
