Wrestling Legend Randy "Macho Man" Savage Dead at 58
He was one of the most memorable personalities in professional wrestling, and sadly Randy "Macho Man" Savage died this morning (May 20).
The 58-year-old, real name Randy Poffo, passed away while driving his car in Tampa, Florida, according to a report.
Savage's brother Lanny Poffo told press Randy suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 10:00 am and subsequently crashed his car.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he lost control of his vehicle, veering across a concrete median into oncoming traffic and "colliding head-on with a tree."
He was transported to a local medical center where he was pronounced dead.
According to omg!, Poffo's wife Lynn was also in the vehicle but suffered only "minor injuries".
Macho Man kicked off his wrestling career with the WWF back in 1985 and married his second wife Lynn Payne last May.
In the wake of Friday's accident, members of the wrestling world have come forward to speak on the loss of their colleague and friend.
One star taking the news particularly hard is WCW/WWE legend Hulk Hogan, who tweeted earlier, "I'm completely devastated, after over 10 years of not talking with Randy, we've finally started to talk and communicate."
"He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him," Hogan wrote. "We miss him a lot. I feel horrible about the ten years of having no communication. This was a tough one."
Also using Twitter to voice his sorrow was Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock in WWE.
"RIP Randy 'Macho Man' Savage - you were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family," he wrote.
Meanwhile a spokesperson for the WWE released the following statement to Access Hollywood following the news of Savage's death:
"WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, a.k.a. Randy "Macho Man" Savage.
