Yankee Parade 2009: New York Yankees Ticker Tape Parade Expected

The New York Yankees won the 2009 World Series tonight. Many New Yorkers are expecting to have the largest ticker tape parade Broadway "has ever seen" as Mayor Michael Bloomberg had suggested.

That, however, is unlikely as it required more than 5,440 tons of paper, which rained on Broadway during the US victory over Japan in WWII.

Thousands watched the game at Time Square with great anticipation. The Yankees had maintained the lead throughout the game, and finished the game with 7-3.

The city had spent $331,000 on the last ticker tape parade in the 2008 Super Bowl win. Many suspect it would be unwise to throw a costly party in the tough economic climate.

Could you please fix your first sentence?"New York Yankees has won the 2009 World Series tonight" is just awful. It should be "The New York Yankess won the 2009 World Series tonight."
