NP Rank:
Yankees' First Workout at New Yankee Stadium
The 2009 New York Yankees team had its first team workout in the $1.5 billion New Yankees Stadium.
More than 20,000 fans watched the team practice on the new diamond that mirrored the Old Yankee Stadium with the same outfield dimensions and many of the same architectural touches such as the ornate frieze (facade) which overhangs the top of the upper deck.
The differences between the Old Yankees Stadium and the New Yankees Stadium is subtle. The differences can be seen in the distance from home plate to the backstop and foul territory. The backstop to home plate was shorter and there was more foul territory wide of each base line.
Yankees captain Derek Jeter raved about the amenities, ranging from a spacious clubhouse and workout facilities, and new first baseman Mark Teixeira, signed to a eight-year, $180 million free agent deal, gushed about his new address.
"This is going to be considered the greatest sports venue in the world," he said.
Wang Chien-ming will have the pleasure of being the first one to pitch from the New Yankee Stadium mound as the Yankees will play the team's first exhibition game April 3 against the Chicago Cubs.
Many fans around the world are searching high and low for New Yankees Stadium pictures as the stadium holds spectacular gadgets such as a 59 x 101 foot-long video scoreboard in center field as well as 1,100 monitors scattered throughout the stadium.
Ticket prices for a front-row seat at the New Yankees Stadium is going for $2,625 with the average price of a ticket at $72.97.
