New Zealand chose to field at the Harare Sports Club in their first game of a three-week long tour of Zimbabwe. There was an early setback for the hosts, who lost Tatenda Taibu due to an injury; replacing him was wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva. Vusi Sibanda, who was unavailable due to the death of his mother, was replaced by Forster Mutizwa. New Zealand, who boast a strong line-up, gave Kane Williamson an opportunity to make his Twenty20 international debut.
