Germany’s world famous magazine Der Spiegel announced members of the German secret service worked at the magazine under the cover of journalists.

Der Spiegel revealed that one employee who worked in its local bureau until last fall was a spy working for the German Intelligence Agency (BND).

The employee in question worked on its latest issue to be distributed next Monday; they also noted that one of the war journalists from Focus Magazine also works for intelligence service.

German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung noted that BND’s former President Volker Foertschde said journalists are sometimes used as intelligence sources, and continued that BND spies on journalists in order to learn who leaks intelligence to newspapers, referring to Der Spiegel’s news.

Evaluating Der Spiegel’s news German Berliner Zeitung newspaper emphasized that spy journalists, who have connections with BND, are employed by the intelligence service in order to prevent the publication of the events that are still under investigation and to uncover journalists’ sources.
