ST. PETERSBURG - There's 800 homes in the Brighton Bay subdivision, and some 3,000 people. Their newest neighbor could be a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

"Many like to shop at Wal-Mart, but very few, if any, want one in their neighborhood," homeowners association lawyer David Bacon stated.

ST. PETERSBURG - Wal-Mart has a difficult road ahead if it decides
to pursue plans to build a 150,000-square-foot supercenter near the
Brighton Bay neighborhood off Gandy Boulevard.

Because the retail corporation's site plan was rejected Wednesday
by the Environmental Development Commission, it would take a
supermajority of the City Council - six of eight members - to overturn
the ruling.
