AMSTERDAM — Train traffic was facing serious disruptions from the
south-westerly storm that hit the Netherlands on Thursday afternoon.

Dutch rail NS said only stop trains will be operating. No intercities will be available.

The NS said the regular timetable will not operate on Thursday afternoon and evening.

No train traffic is possible from several stations due to broken
overhead cabling. Police also ordered some stations closed due to the
danger of loose-flying objects.

There is no train transport to and from Amsterdam Central until at
least 6pm. Part of the station has even been evacuated on order of the
police.

Only a restricted train service is available on certain routes, especially in the Randstad region.

The NS and rail network authority ProRail are advising everyone to
stay at home or stay where they are. People are advised against going
to train stations.

Those who do want to travel by train are advised to expect long delays.

The NS is in talks with local authorities to arrange gathering
points and shelters for stranded passengers. It is not yet certain
whether they will be established.

Bus services have also been cancelled at various places.

Connexxion said its Fast Flying Ferries (hydrofoil boat Velsen-Amsterdam) is not operating.

The water bus services in Rotterdam and the ferry services Vianen-Nieuwegein and Genemuiden-Zwartsluis are not operating either.

The Connexxion ferries over the Noordzeekanaal, but the ferry at De Woude was operating on Thursday afternoon.
