A jury found Jeremie Dalin guilty of making a false terrorist
threat despite testimony last week that the Web
site the threat was posted on - 4chan.org - was not to be taken seriously.

Last week's verdict followed hours of arguments where
cyber crimes prosecutor Mary Stanton urged the jury to look past the
fact that Dalin claimed his threat was a joke and examine that fact
that he's being charged with making a fake threat.

"There's no 'just kidding' defense," Stanton said.

Dalin, 17, a recent Barrington High School graduate from Fox River
Grove, was arrested by Lincolnshire police last fall after posting a
threat on an online message board. The 138-word message threatened to
shoot students at Adlai E. Stevenson High School, though it did not
clarify which of the four American high schools that share that name
was being targeted.

In his own testimony, Dalin said the online post was fiction and was made because he wanted to illicit responses from others

"I wanted to make a threat that would make the front page (of the site)," he said.

Pre-sentencing is scheduled for next month, July 17. Dalin could face up to 15 years in prison.
