7 Cameroon Olympic Athletes Go Missing in London
Cameroonian Athletes 'Abscond' in London
Seven members of the Cameroon Olympic Team, including the entire Cameroonian boxing team, are missing in London, having disappeared from Athletes' Village in Stratford. The missing Cameroonian athletes are:
- Drusille Ngako (Women's Soccer)
- Paul Ekane Edingue (Swimming)
- Thomas Essomba (Boxing)
- Christian Donfack Adjoufack (Boxing)
- Abdon Mewoli (Boxing)
- Blaise Yepmou Mendouo (Boxing)
- Serge Ambomo (Boxing)
Drusille Ngako vanished while her team was still in the prelims; the other athletes absconded after they were eliminated from their events.
The Cameroonian athletes' actions are not illegal under British immigration law: the athletes are free to stay in Britain until November as per their visas. None of the seven athletes has yet to formally seek asylum.
"What began as rumour has finally turned out to be true," Team Cameroon mission head David Ojong said, in a letter sent to the Cameroonian sports ministry.
