CHATSWORTH - An 85-year-old woman died at a local hospital, and her daughter was arrested on suspicion of homicide, authorities said this morning.
The elderly woman died about 11 p.m. Saturday at West Hills Hospital, a little less than 12 hours after Los Angeles police officers went to her home in the 21900 block of Dupont Street to check on her well-being.
Someone had called police to report that something was amiss at the woman's home, police said. When officers arrived, they found her lying in bed covered in human waste.
She shared the house with her daughter. It's unclear how she died or why detectives are treating the case as a homicide. Neither of their names have been released.
