8th grader shoots another student inside California classroom
OXNARD (KABC) -- An 8th-grade student at E.O. Green Junior High School was shot in the head by another 8th grader inside a classroom around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The 15-year-old victim was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and is in serious condition. The student's name has not been released.
Eyewitness News reported during our 11 a.m. broadcast that the student died of his injuries. Authorities continue to say that the boy is in serious condition in intensive care at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Ventura County.
Several dozen officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the C Street campus after receiving a report that a student had been shot inside a classroom.
The suspect, a 14-year-old 8th-grade student at the school, ran off campus after the shooting. He was arrested shortly after and remains in police custody.
Police said it appears to be an isolated incident between the two boys.
After being on lockdown for some time, students are now being released for the day. Parents can pick up their kids on the south side of the school with proof of identification.
E.O. Green Junior High School is in the Hueneme School District.
