Ambam, The Upright-Walking Gorilla Becomes an Internet Star

Ambam, a gorilla who resides at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in England, has become the latest animal internet superstar. His claim to fame is walking upright like a person, instead of using his arms.

Footage has spread across video sharing sites like Youtube and Liveleak

“We think he might use it to get a height advantage to look over the wall when keepers come to feed him and standing up can also help him in looking for food generally."

However, the park staff are not starstruck by Ambam's ambling: they're used to seeing gorillas turn their swag on:

Phil Ridges, Ambam's keeper, said it was "not a novelty" for park staff as gorillas were sometimes known to walk in this way.

There are several videos of gorillas walking like people on Youtube, but Kent Animal Park's is definitley driving the most traffic. We can't help but notice that they fell victim to the Youtube affliciton of adding unnecessary music to their video footage.
