Baby Hitler Photo: Nina Maria Kleivan Dresses Baby as Hitler
Artist Nina Maria Kleivan Has Created a Series of Photos of a Baby Dressed as Famous Dictators, including Adolf Hitler. Is the Baby Hitler Photo an Honest Exploration of the Nature of Evil or Pointless Sensationalism?
We all love baby photos. But Danish-Norwegian artist Nina Maria Kleivan has created some baby photos that might make people more than a little uncomfortable. Kleivan created a series of photos featuring babies dressed as dictators including, you guessed it, a Baby Hitler photo.
The Baby Hitler photo features an adorable baby in a Nazi uniform and a painted-on moustache. The Baby Hitler photo is part of a photo series called "Potency," which features Kleivan's daughter Faustina dressed up as 20th-century madmen. In addition to the Hitler Baby Photo, Kleivan created photos of babies dressed as Augusto Pinochet, Saddam Hussein, Slobodan Milosevic, Joseph Stalin, Idi Amin, Chairman Mao, Benito Mussolini, and Ayatollah Khomeini.
Kleivan says that she created the baby dictator photos to make a point about the nature of evil.
The Baby Hitler photo, in particular, has evoked a strong reaction from people who have seen it exhibited. One of those who reacted to the photo series is Nina Maria Kleivan's aunt, who happened upon the it at a Swedish art gallery.
"Most of her family disappeared in the German camps, I felt so bad telling her it was my work, because she didn't know, and was sickened by it. But this is not a deliberate provocation, it calls for reflection. Even though comical, you're not supposed to only laugh at these pictures. You need to contemplate them, ponder where this evil comes from."
Kleivan was inspired to create while recovering from the birth of her second daughter. She created small costumes and photographed her daughter in them. She claims that the Baby Hitler photos are meant to make think about how all humans have the potential for evil.

Why did she not pick "uniform" of Churchill, Bush I, Bush II, Truman, De Gaulle, Franco, Salazar, Rockefeller and other degeneratives.

If you think Churchill and Bush are more evil than Stalin or Mao then you need a history lesson! Between Stalin and Mao they were responsible for the deaths of almost 100 million people (many of whom were tortured to death using methods that make waterboarding like a steak and a BJ).

Why is it that there is only outrage over the image of Hitler? He was not the worst or most evil dictator in history (or in the photo spread). He was in the top 3 but he seems to stir the strongest emotions. I would put Hirohito, Pol Pot and Stalin right up there, if not ahead of Hitler on the evil scale.
