Drivers on a Bay Area freeway encountered a strange obstacle early Monday morning: a baby sea lion.
Motorists on Interstate 880 reported that a baby sea lion was "walking" along the center divider near the Oakland Coliseum. The police quickly rescued the stray sea lion from the highway, putting him into the back of a police car. The police named the sea Lion "Fruitvale" after the Oakland neighborhood
Authorities said the sea lion probably reached land via a nearby San Francisco Bay estuary and crossed the roadway late at night.
Fruitvale the Sea Lion is currently resting comfortably at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito.
