Is a hundred-hour game of ball hockey a finesse game or more of a grinding affair?

THERE were 3 a.m. shifts when they staggered around the rink like zombies, and there was a day when a sump pump kept the game going -- all worth it for Chris Watchorn and 37 buddies now enshrined in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Watchorn got the word Thursday that their 100-hour, two-minute ball hockey marathon last May at the St. Norbert Community Centre outdoor rink set a Guiness record.

“There were definitely periods when it seemed like zombie hockey, the 3 a.m. shifts,” Watchorn laughed this morning.

“We played from Sunday afternoon through Thursday,” he said. “We had really good weather, except for Monday when it rained all day. We had the sump pump going.”

Watchorn said more than 3,000 goals were scored.

And they raised $25,000 for cancer research.
