As Barbie gets ready to turn 50, an interior decorator in Malibu named Jonathan Adler has designed her dream house for real, by decking out a 3,500 square foot home overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu.
Adler was hired by Mattel Inc, the makers of Barbie, to get the house ready for Monday's anniversary party, which took six months to plan and a few weeks to get ready.
"Barbie was a dream client because she doesn't exist as a person," Adler said. "She exists as fantasy and is the perfect client because she's always happy and fun and loves everything. I thought to myself, 'How would Barbie live?' What I thought was Barbie would have a house that is glamorous, kittenish, chic, colorful and happy — as well as functional."
Barbie's bedroom is pink all over, with the closet holding 50 pairs of pink shoes and her kitchen is stocked with only cupcake-making ingredients. In her garage sits a new Volkswagen Beetle.
When Adler was designing the house he was given access to Mattel files at all of Barbie's houses over the years.
After the party, all the furnishings will be sent to Las Vegas Palms Casino Resort that will then be used in a suite that people can rent out for bachelorette parties or Barbie lovers.

All 50 pairs of shoes are the same! How boring is that?
