Bigfoot Found? Press Conference Scheduled for Friday August 15th, 2008.
The claimant(s) have stated they have found a deceased body, and have DNA evidence of their claim. They have not, however detailed the specific location where the body was found.
If this claim is in fact validated, one might ask how it is that such a major find has eluded us throughout the last century... Likely, any new species such as this would require further study, and protection (if it is found to be threatened or endangered).
Three "Bigfoot'' seekers who released a documentary titled "Bigfoot Lives," claim they may have the body of one and have released a photo. They claim they also have DNA evidence to back up their findings and will release that information in a press conference in Palo Alto on Friday.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 12, 2008 BIGFOOT BODY FOUND DNA evidence and photo evidence to be presented at a Press Conference to be held:
Date: Friday, August 15, 2008
Time: From 12Noon-1:00pm
Place: Cabana Hotel-Palo Alto (A Crown Plaza Resort) 4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, California 94306
A body that may very well be the body of the creature commonly known as “Bigfoot” has been found in the woods in northern Georgia. DNA evidence and photo evidence of the creature will be presented in a press conference on Friday, August 15th from 12 Noon to 1:00pm at the Cabana Hotel-Palo Alto at 4290 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, California, 94306. The press conference will not be open to the public. It will only be open to credentialed members of the press. Here are some of the vital statistics on the “Bigfoot” body:
*The creature is seven feet seven inches tall. *It weighs over five hundred pounds. *The creature looks like it is part human and part ape-like.
*It is male. *It has reddish hair and blackish-grey eyes.
*It has two arms and two legs, and five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot.
*The feet are flat and similar to human feet.
*Its footprint is sixteen and three-quarters inches long and five and three-quarters inches wide at the heel.
*From the palm of the hand to the tip of the middle finger, its hands are eleven and three-quarters inches long and six and one-quarter inches wide.
*The creatures walk upright. (Several of them were sighted on the same day that the body was found.)
*The teeth are more human-like than ape-like.
*DNA tests are currently being done and the current DNA and photo evidence will be presented at the press conference on Friday, August 15th.
It’s more than 7-feet tall[,] [w]eighs over 500 pounds and walked upright -- three "Bigfoot" seekers ... claimed.
Among the creature's other physical characteristics of the body -- according to the hunters website -- http://www.searchingforbigfoot.com/ -- were flat feet similar to human feet. Its footprint is 16 ¾ inches long and the length from palm to tip of the middle finger is 11 ½ inches long.
The creature was found by Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer (residents of Georgia) in the woods in northern Georgia. (The exact location is being kept secret to protect the creatures.)
Whitton is a Clayton County, Georgia, police officer, who is currently on administrative leave after being wounded in the course of duty pursuing an alleged felon. Dyer is a former correctional officer. Whitton and Dyer are co-owners of bigfoottracker.com and Bigfoot Global LLC., a company that offers Bigfoot expeditions. Whitton and Dyer are working with Bigfoot hunter, Tom Biscardi, and Biscardi’s Searching for Bigfoot, Inc., to present and conduct the scientific study of the evidence and information on this body.
History repeats?
This is not the first time a Bigfoot body has been claimed to have been found. A man named Tom Biscardi, founder of something called the Great American Bigfoot Research Organization, once claimed he had captured a Bigfoot. On Aug. 19, 2005, Biscardi appeared on the radio show "Coast to Coast with George Noory." Biscardi claimed his group had captured a Bigfoot a week earlier, a male beast that weighed over 400 pounds and stood 8-feet tall. He said he would be presenting photos of it several days later. It turned out to be a hoax.
Interestingly, Biscardi is also involved in the new Bigfoot body discovery.
Speaking on behalf of the Georgia men this week, Biscardi said, "Extensive scientific studies will be done on the body by a team of scientists including a molecular biologist, an anthropologist, a paleontologist and other scientists over the next few months at an undisclosed location" under armed guard.
If it all sounds very cloak-and-dagger, it is. Unnamed experts? Undisclosed location? Sounds more like "The X-Files" than real science.
Marketing scheme?
In 2005, Biscardi promoted a pay-per-view cable TV show in which he offered viewers the chance to see a Bigfoot captured on live television for only $59.95. That never happened, but Biscardi did recently direct and produce a film called "Bigfoot Lives."
Surely the publicity from this press conference might boost his film's sales...
Bigfoot researcher Loren Coleman, while stopping short of authenticating the claims, wrote on the Web site Cryptomundo.com, "I feel, in all honesty, this, indeed, may be the real deal, and I say this carefully after reviewing information that has been shared privately with me."
So has a Bigfoot finally been found, after all these years? Or is this just the latest hoax to embarrass Bigfoot believers and bring further ridicule to a field sorely in need of science?
Apparently we will see.
Apparently, Biscardi has been in this position before and the prior "proof" turned out not to be. He has recently released a video called "Bigfoot lives." Is this a happy coincidence? Or is it just more hype?
While this may just be another big foot hoax or a publicity stunt, the possibility that it is not seems intriguing. It seems we may have our answer, one way or the other, tomorrow... Many bigfoot believers are waiting with bated breath. Others are more skeptical and 'cautiously optimistic.' Some are certainly it's simply another hoax.
Due to the sensitive nature of the issue, and high strung feelings on both sides of the "bigfoot" issue, and the possibility of a hoax, this story is offered 'lightly' until the results of the press conference scheduled for tomorrow. Needless to say, many eyes and ears will be very intently focused on this story as it develops (or peters out, as the case may be).
The story appears to also be doing the rounds on Fox News, The Post Chronicle and The Inquisitr.

mgmirkin, I like this story. It's good stuff.
It will be interesting to see what happens at this press conference tomorrow. Thanks for including the links to the previous stories too.

Yup, figured it would be a good idea to cite prior works on the subject. Decided to snag the URLs and compile the info into kind of a "master article." Managed to track down a couple other sources and such as well, including the LiveScience piece which brings up a valid point, if one of the claimants or promoters of the find has been involved in a prior event deemed a hoax.
As you say, it will be interesting to see whether the world has changed ever so slightly by the end of tomorrow. Or not...

I'm eagerly anticipating the press conference, but can't help shake-off a dim memory of the Fortean Times runnibng an expose of the famous Bigfoot footage, saying that one of the people who shot it had confessed that it was a fake.
Like Mulder, I want to believe, but I'll wait for the test-results before I get too excited.

The proof is in the pudding! We'll see what happens tomorr-- today... Hmm, It's late. I should sleep. ;o] We'll see if the world is any different a place later today, I guess?
